DOME is dedicated to improving the quality and efficiency of research at the University of Notre Dame by working with faculty, students, and staff across all academic disciplines.
DOME bridges the gap between academic innovation and production-grade execution. By unifying AI Engineering, Data Science, and Software Engineering into a single co-designed ecosystem, DOME delivers scalable, secure, and verifiable solutions that accelerate and amplify faculty research. Rather than acting as a transactional work-for-hire service, the team collaborates with each stakeholder as a true research partner.
The services provided through DOME serve three primary functions:
- Supporting Notre Dame faculty and researchers as a collaborative solutions development partner
- Conducting original research as principal investigators and in partnership with faculty and researchers at Notre Dame and across the world
- Providing workforce development, training, and support to Notre Dame students, faculty, and staff
While best engaged early in the project lifecycle, DOME can consult at any point from grant proposal development to research design and data collection to analyzing and visualizing data for publication.
How Do DOME Services Work?
DOME offers a free initial consultation to understand the scope and needs of a project and provide initial guidance. If a good fit is found between our resources and the project at hand, an official engagement will be scoped and planned. DOME supports projects from a few hours to multi-FTE multi-year major research programs. As a core facility, DOME charges an hourly rate based on the project’s required effort. Hourly rates are set by the University per Fiscal Year. If appropriate, flexible arrangements can also be made, including the option to secure a portion of a DOME personnel’s time through a percentage FTE buyout.
