Deployment, Operations, Modeling and Engineering (DOME) brings together the University’s leading technical experts into a single, coordinated ecosystem designed to accelerate research, enhance teaching, and power discovery across disciplines.

Historically, exceptional talent in data science and software engineering has been distributed across multiple centers. While impactful, this structure often limited the ability to fully leverage shared expertise at scale.

What is DOME?

DOME is the integration of advanced data science, software engineering, and cutting-edge AI engineering into a unified, cross-functional solution development team that can meet the needs of modern research, education, and strategic partnerships.

Rather than working in silos, our team operates under a shared framework across three distinct technical roles:

• AI Engineers design the semantic infrastructure, ontologies, and knowledge graphs required to ground generative models. They build the advanced RAG architectures, multi-agent workflows, and deterministic guardrails that make autonomous AI systems reliable, auditable, and safe.
• Data Scientists transform complex data into insights and operational breakthroughs. They specialize in deep-learning customization alongside traditional decision science, operations research optimization, and rigorous model evaluation protocols.
• Software Engineers build the production-grade platforms, applications, and pipelines that bring models to life. They engineer robust full-stack software architectures, optimize code for diverse high-performance computing and cloud-native environments, and ensure long-term sustainability through automated continuous integration, continuous delivery, and DevOps pipelines.

Together, these roles form a complementary foundation of skills and expertise that enables researchers and partners to move from idea to production-grade impact.
