Nitesh Chawla is an expert in artificial intelligence, data science, and network science, and is motivated by the question of how technology can advance the common good through interdisciplinary research. As such, his research is not only at the frontier of fundamental methods and algorithms but is also making interdisciplinary and translational advances for societal impact.

Moniz, who joined the University of Notre Dame in 2022, is an expert on machine learning, investigating challenges such as imbalanced learning and rare event detection, data privacy, and model interpretability, for which he has won multiple awards internationally. He is particularly interested in interdisciplinary efforts to understand the real-world impact of automated systems.

Jasmine Botello provides administrative support for Nitesh Chawla, and the DAC Initiative's adminstrative operations. Before joining Notre Dame full time, Jasmine worked as a student for the CRC and Latino Studies on campus. Jasmine holds a Masters of Art in Health Communication from Indiana University of South Bend and a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art with a minor in Communications.

Angélica García-Martínez is an expert in cancer epidemiology and early childhood development, with extensive experience working with highly vulnerable children in rural and Indigenous communities in Mexico. As a postdoctoral research scholar at the Lucy Family Institute for Data and Society at the University of Notre Dame, she co-led the design and evaluation of AI-driven telehealth innovations (e.g., SaludConectaMX) aimed at improving pediatric cancer outcomes in LMICs by integrating clinical, nutritional, and social determinants of health data to predict and prevent complications such as fever and neutropenia.

Ting Hua’s research focuses on efficient learning of large language models (LLMs), including model compression, alignment, parameter-efficient fine-tuning, and self-training, with applications spanning natural language processing, speech, and multi-modal tasks.
