Biography

Steve Corcelli is the William K. Warren Foundation Dean of the College of Science at the University of Notre Dame. A member of the Notre Dame faculty since 2005, Corcelli was named chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in 2022. He also previously held roles as associate dean for interdisciplinary studies and faculty development and as director of graduate studies.

An accomplished theoretical chemist, Corcelli leads a research program focused on the molecular-level understanding of aqueous acids, bases, and salts, as well as the mechanisms of biomolecular binding. His lab uses advanced simulations and spectroscopic techniques to investigate ion transport in aqueous electrolytes—relevant to battery technologies—and the binding interactions critical to biological function and drug development.

Corcelli earned his Ph.D. in chemistry from Yale University and his Sc.B. in chemistry from Brown University. He has received numerous honors, including a Sloan Research Fellowship, the NSF CAREER Award, and the Rev. Edmund P. Joyce, C.S.C. Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching. He is a Fellow of the American Chemical Society and a Kavli Fellow of the National Academies of Science.
